change of plans

// December 21st, 2004 // 4 Comments » // Chumu Volunteership, Costa Rica, Puerto Viejo

well i’ve had a slight change of plans… the family wasnt there to meet me, i have no idea why. so i was alone, in the middle of a reservation, the only thing around me was a bar full of drunk locals (probably gringo haters!! ;( j/k) and a small store for food… i could have tried going into the bar to TRY to find someone to take me 45 mins up the river in a canoe… something told me that wasn’t the best idea.

so i waited for the next (and last bus) out of there… luckily it came early and i was able to make it to cahuita… my plan was to meet back up with Michael and travel with him… i don’t have enogh money to try to stick around and meet back up with the family… i have to get up to Puerto Limon to get some more money… i got here a bit late and got a cheap hotel… $6 w/ private bathroom and shower… a big bed too… nice find.

i went out but the bar wouldnt take my credit card, so i went to the little markey and bought a six pack (they took it) and took the beer to the bar… fuck em. there was a live calypso band which weren’t that good and didnt even have a steel drum.

I ended up losing my backpack cover which i was using for a rain coat… so jade, if you could grab one from REI … they have them for $24… tell them you need it to cover a Gregory Shasta Large backpack… they can help you… if paul is still working there, perhaps he can get a discount? otherwise just get it and i can paypal ben $24 with it… matt can bring it down to me… fuck, i better stop losing stuff…

so i met up with michael this morning… i went to the bus stoip at 7am and waited till he came… we went and got a bannana filled chocolate covered crepe…

we are going to head up to Puerto Limon right now… to get some cash… then we head down to panama tomorrow…. hopefully all goes well. we’ll be going first to Bocas del toro islands… then across the northern part of panama to enter back to south west costa rica (to the osa peninsula) pray for no rain.

another rainy day

well it’s raining again… i think it should let up today though… yesterday was nice, i got a bit burnt on my face though, brendan got totally burnt… he leaves today in a matter of a few hours… it was great hanging out with him… a little bit of craziness from back home. not sure what’s going on today… i will probably try to find michael again, see if he’s feeling better… i leave here tomorrow morning (back to no internet) if my atm works in the next town, i will return here for new years… otherwise i will not!

someone has to update me on the packers today… i’m going to check a sports bar here but i doubt it will be on… do they even play today?

last night we went to a reggae restaurant and brendan got some Rondon which is somesort of soup… i wasn’t hungry but melissa had some left over food so i ate that… we drank a few beers there… the guy working was from mcminnville, oregon! small world… he was real nice… we stayed till almost 1am then walked back in the rain… we went to a bar named johnnies as that was were the party for the night was… it was some sort of house music mix and i was tired and not into it so i had a beer and went home to bed (around 2am)….

i don’t feel much like writing more, plus i have to go wake brendan up…

real quick

so last night brendan showed up with melissa… they got a room at the same place i am staying… while waiting, we met a couple beautiful girls from switzerland… miriam and something else… i forget… we talked with them a bit then we went and got a few six packs… we drank up by brendan and melissa’s room and then headed next door for some good pizza… it was good. they couldn’t get my visa card to work though… i”m running low on cash and i dont know if my atm works … the closest machine is a town away… we’ll see! today it finally didn’t rain.. it was real nice actually… me and brendan rented bikes and biked 10 miles to manzanillo as brendan was looking for some cd’s… it wsa a nice bike ride, though i don’t really like riding bikes… just like horses… it was beutiful… through the jungle basically, we saw a bunch of the bright blue morpho butterflies… hands down the most beuatiful butterfly i have ever seen. we got there and of course the guy wasn’t there… though the bike ride was well worth it.

we drank a juice and headed back… we stopped along the way and got the best damn rice and beans i ever had… the chicken that came with it wsa a bit dry though… we ran into the two swiss girls there as well… they were heading to the beach right there… i also ran into some americans that turned out to have been looking into buying the same piece of land down here i bought… small world.

so we ate and headed to the beach… we laid around and it got cloudy…. the girls left so they could be closer to the city if it did rain… me and brendan hung out there for another hour or so then headed back … it cleared up and we ended up at the beach again… finally went swimming… it’s so nice to swim in a warm ocean…

we hung out there for a bit, and just now returned to town… dropped our bikes off and now are checking emails…. i’m getting hungry so supper is soon to follow, then a night of drinking probably… i’m not in the mood to write anymore, i’m tired and it’s hot..
